Children’s Clubs

VIN has been conducting different Children Development program. One of them is the activation of school-based Children Clubs (CCs). CCs have been formed in all school in Jitpurphedi. There are altogether 9 CCs, where each CC in every school (i.e., 8 schools) and a united CC (UCC) as an umbrella of all CCs. These CCs have been organizing different programs like debate, poetry, village and school cleaning campaign, fund raising, etc. It has inspired them for creative and reformative ideas and works, equipping them with empowerment tools. CC can be considered as a platform for the children to discuss and find solutions for their problems.

Children Club Reformation and Refreshment Training

Like every year, this year too, children club was reformed and refreshment training was provided to all CC members. Altogether, 88 students from 8 different schools were reformed under children club and continued their programs actively. The refresher training has supported the children to design and implement their programs effectively through children clubs. About 1,000 of children were indirectly benefited by the program of children clubs.

Children Club Facilitation Training to Teachers

It was conducted a training to CC facilitator teachers to provide feedback and monitor the continuous and sustainable functioning of children club. They were trained about all spheres of CCs including the concept, rationale, ways of formation and reformation, conducting meetings, writing minutes, publication of wall magazine, communication skill, resource mapping, fund raising, account keeping, making plans, library management, etc. It was targeted to CC facilitator teachers from all schools. Altogether 8 teachers from 8 different schools of Jitpur were benefited by the program. The teachers learnt the ways and methods of facilitating CC. The program was found effective.

Child sponsorship

VIN has been sponsoring children who are from poor family and are deprived from education. VIN also helps them to find sponsor. It has updated children profile in its website So that they are visible to interested sponsors. Also it has updated information to past sponsors about the progress of children. Specially, it focused on child family background, birth date, school, favorite subject, sports etc.

Sponsor Material Distribution

VIN has been sponsoring the education of children, those who are from poor family, orphan and abandoned. It has sponsored education materials and ensures the child rights of getting education to those deprived groups of children. It has provided copies, books, school uniform, bag etc. Those sponsored children from community were provided materials in a function at schools. There was a big gathering of students, children and parents. Sponsored materials were distributed by VIN’s Executive Director (ED), Bhupendra Ghimire. Altogether, 104 children have received sponsorship, where 25 children were from orphanages and 52 from Jitpur and 27 were from Okhaldhunga.

It was found that the sponsorship supporting by VIN has a great role in child education. It was found that after VIN’s support children had improved scores at school. Also they were found active in learning process. It is concluded that sponsor program is largely effective to support children in education and ensures child rights to get education.

Publication of Souvenir by Child Clubs

Jitpur Phedi Child Clubs have developed network between children, teachers and parents. They have been organizing different programs in schools and communities on a regular basis. Among different programs, publication of souvenir was a regular program of CCs being done yearly. It was the opportunity for children, teachers and social workers to publish their articles and literary creations. It has included creative writings, articles in different topics, poetry, songs, jokes and many more. Like other years, Jitpur Phedi children clubs published a souvenir named ‘Creative Souvenir’ on 24th Dec, 2013 with a grand event. VIN has supported in all process of publishing a book. Around 1200 children were directly benefited by this publication. It has contributed to enhance the development of children and hence empowering children by ensuring child rights. This program has motivated all the children to bring forward their creativity in the field of literature.

Early childhood development program

Interaction with ECD teachers

Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher meeting was held in Jitpur. The main objectives were to revise curriculum and modify it to child oriented; to share ideas, list out problems and find the solution to the problems. The meeting was focused on condition of students, their participation and learning, role and support from parents and head teachers. There were 9 ECD teachers presented in meeting. Altogether 194 ECD children were benefited by this program.

Meeting with Teachers and Parents

VIN has been facilitating different meetings on a regular basis for the development of ECD programs. There was parents meeting, ECD teacher meeting, school management committee meeting, mass campaign with parents of 3-5 yrs old children and teachers training etc.

It was held orientation session to parents about ECD. There were objectives of ECD orientation:

  • To orient parents about concept and importance of ECD.
  • Orient parents about child health, sanitation and nutrition.
  • Orient parents about early childhood stage/ importance and their role of ECD for children.

VIN had facilitated ECD orientation program to the parents about the importance of health, sanitation and nutrition for their children. The training was focused on the ways to cope their early childhood problems, child growth, child learning capacity, child right, child nutrition etc.

Teachers and parents had expressed their gratitude for the program and expressed the views that this type of program should be conducted on regular basis. An interactive meeting with parents, teachers and management committee was conducted in all schools in Jitpur (11 times) where 147 parents participated.

It was found that orientation and interactive meeting between teachers, parents and children had provided opportunity to discuss about child problems. All the participants were benefited from the sessions and were expecting such programs in regular basis.

Children Winter Camp

VIN conducted winter camps for children to provide opportunity to utilize winter vacation. Children of ages 8 – 12 years were involved in the program. The major objective of the program was to utilize their leisure time and involve them in extracurricular activities to make them more creative.

VIN had conducted two winter camps in 2013 at different places of Jitpur. It was conducted at Dadagaun and Tinpipple. Altogether 106 children were involved in the camps and it was for a week. In the camp, children were taught different activities with the use of local materials and resources like; physical exercise, singing national anthem, songs related to children right, entertaining and intellectual games, drawing, painting, making toys out of paper, dancing, English language followed by the activities related to personal development, like, anchoring, socialization. Health, sanitation and hygiene were another important aspect of the club, where the children learnt the ways of teeth brushing and were made aware about health issues.
